Disgraced former lawyer Philip Englefield rushes from Ilford County Court refusing to answer questions about his client, Filipina Helena Skeggs who claims to be the adopted or illegitimate daughter of former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Skeggs was ordered to appear for an oral examination to explain why she had not complied with judgements to repay money to some of the people who have either lent her money or “invested” with her. Skeggs has been borrowing money on the strength of her “inheritance” from the Marcos estate, or claimed to be an investment advisor. Englefield was struck off and jailed in the 1990’s for theft of £4.5-M of clients money when he was a solicitor. He has since re-invented himself as a “legal advisor”. Skeggs did not appear and he was giving excuses and dealing with the oral examination, although he probably failed to mention a lavish party Skeggs hosted at London’s Marriott hotel opposite the Houses of Parliament recently.
